Kansas Beats the Virus
A Kansas Leadership Center Campaign

Curbside & Delivery Options for
Groceries in Crawford County, KS

To combat the spread of COVID-19, the Kansas Leadership Center launched “Kansas Beats the Virus,” a public health partnership with the State of Kansas. For its part, KLC called on its partners and alumni to hold 1,000 community meetings across the state by December 31. The goal? To inspire local solutions that keep Kansans healthy, schools and businesses open and our economy strong amidst the pandemic. Their team of professional facilitators guided meetings to produce a specific action plan for each group that will help slow the spread of the virus in their community.

In December of 2020, Live Well Crawford County gathered ten community leaders to participate in a conversation facilitated by the Kansas Leadership Center to develop a local solution to slow the spread of COVID-19.  During the meeting, we discussed the consequences of those who are asked to quarantine or isolate heading right to the grocery store to stock up before they begin their period of quarantine.  We also discussed how typical it is for COVID-19 to be spread by infected people who are not showing any symptoms.  We decided that our action plan would be to develop a campaign to promote contactless grocery options for Crawford County residents.  Live Well then applied for and was awarded a $2,000 grant from the Kansas Leadership center to pursue our action plan, the goal of which is to slow the spread of the virus by reducing the number of Covid positive shoppers in stores.

We developed a list of 21 separate businesses in Crawford County at which residents can order groceries without ever stepping foot inside of a store.  These flyers are being shared here on our website (below) as well as our Facebook page.  We will also provide all Covid testing sites throughout the county, including the county’s new mobile testing unit, with flyers to distribute.  Additionally, we are using grant funds to partner with Ron’s Supermarket by covering the grocery delivery fee for their next 300 shoppers.

Our hope is that this campaign will help slow the spread of the virus locally which will keep our residents healthy while supporting our local businesses and economy.
